I know I need to get a hell of a lot better, but I'm considering looking into a career as a game artist (concept artist, character animator, etc, haven't really chosen a specific area yet) and was wondering what I should practice in the year and a half. I'm halfway through grade 11, so I have some time to build a semi-decent portfolio to apply for a school.
I've spent the past week researching entry-level portfolios online, and other things that have to do with the necessary skill level in order to be at least considered for acceptance at some place like Vanarts or the Art Institute of Vancouver, but haven't had much luck. I'm going a bit insane >.<
Sooo...if anyone's willing to help me out? I'll buy you cookies! I would bake them, but you know...bad things happen when I go in the kitchen.
Questions...
How much do I need to improve in order to be considered adequate or amazing for application to an institute/college? (Please, be harsh)
What should I focus on? (Digital art, anatomy, color, etc.)
This is a stretch, but...has anyone had any particularly memorable experiences at a school in or around Vancouver, BC?
Llamas to all who comment! No, I am not above bribery.
